If the use of bait is prohibited, or if bait or flies are used voluntarily, wild fish may be caught and released until the daily limit is maintained. Barbless single-point hooks are required in areas called “fly fishing only” or “selective gear rules”. Fish and shellfish caught in Washington`s waters end up in markets around the world. It is illegal to possess or use live aquatic animals as bait, except: Hook and line fishing only. Spiked hooks or barbless hooks can be used, and a hook can be a single-point, double or triple hook, but no more than one line with up to three hooks per angler can be used. County references by lakes or streams are noted to facilitate the search for listed bodies of water or to distinguish two places with the same name. This does not mean that the rules only apply to the portion of the water in that district. Unless otherwise stated in the special rules, you must follow the national rules.
