Family Legal Assistant

The schedule of secretaries varies according to lawyers, clients and different areas of practice. A family law legal secretary assists the family law lawyer in all his or her workload. Provide secretarial services for lawyers, prepare legal documents and/or general correspondence from handwritten, dictated or printed copies, maintain records and calendars, schedule appointments and meetings, and arrange travel. A typical family law lawyer can handle cohabitation contracts, prenuptial agreements, paternity applications, and adoptions. Often, a family law legal secretary also meets with clients who are dealing with the harsh reality of domestic violence.

The candidate must have an associate`s degree. Paralegal Certificate – preferred. Working knowledge of court policies and procedures required. Ability to design and analyze discovery documents. Excellent grammar and writing skills required.
