Puerto Rico celebrates all official U.S. holidays,[1] and a number of other official holidays established by the Commonwealth government. In addition, many municipalities celebrate their own patron saint festivities (fiestas patronales in Spanish), as well as festivals in honor of cultural icons such as bomba y plena, danza, salsa, hamacas (hammocks) and popular cultures such as plantains and coffee. As of June 30, 2014, there were 19 public holidays in Puerto Rico. Ferré – are commemorated. The law stipulates that the Eugenio Maria de Hostos festival and the Jose de Diego festival continue to be observed as usual on their respective days.
